O'Brien will head conservation group
The Union Leader
Monday, Mar. 6, 2006
The Granite State Conservation Voters Alliance recently announced longtime political consultant and campaign organizer Jim O'Brien as the organization's first full-time executive director.
The alliance, founded in 2003, is focused on environmental protection through politics.
"We are extremely excited about the direction the organization is headed in," said Rick Russman, alliance chairman.
"O'Brien brings a strong background in New Hampshire politics, organization building, and has the nonprofit fundraising experience necessary for this organization to thrive. With this addition, GSCVA will continue to have a real impact on New Hampshire's campaigns, and elections — helping to bring more pro-environment votes to the state house."
O'Brien, a New Hampshire native, served in 2002 as campaign manager and chairman of former U.S. Senator Gordon Humphrey's gubernatorial campaign. Prior to that, he was a principal in Stepping Stone Management, a political consulting firm specializing in organizational, media and fundraising consulting.
In 1999, O'Brien was the director of operations for the organization that ran the public campaign which brought the Verizon Wireless Arena to the city.
Since 2002, O'Brien has served as development director for several statewide and regional nonprofit organizations, including the Concord Area Red Cross where he completed a $2 million capital campaign to build a new headquarters and training center.
